EPA Congress extensively covers a revolution in urban mobility and the numerous services our members offer in making it work for the benefit of their citizens. The main congress theme, Key solutions for urban mobility, covered an extensive array of topics and presentations relevant to parking and mobility across Europe and beyond, including threats and opportunities for the future. Over the course of two and a half days, 600 international delegates from more than 50 countries attended the presentations. A lot of very good speakers including representatives from universities, European national and local governments, consultants and other experts presented and discussed their work relating to urban mobility. Subjects such as Mobility as a Service (MaaS), electric mobility, business models, on-street management, and kerbside management were all covered. At a European level, it was not surprising to see that many countries understand what their role should be, and are trying hard to highlight it and implement change. In my opinion, its key for those members involved in policy in the UK to learn from this experience and implement real working solutions. The EPAs position paper Key Solutions for Urban Mobility was produced and presented by its policy and strategy committee. It highlighted four key areas and the way in which parking plays a major role in the development and management of each one: Reduction of pollution and congestion Sustainable mobility Better use of urban space Attractiveness of city centres As part of this, I was delighted to present a paper on New Smart Ways for Parking to Support High Street Vitality. The Alliance for Parking Data Standards launched by the BPA with the EPA and IPMI was also covered extensively. Under the guidance of Nigel Williams and the team involved in this project, a significant amount of work has been done to produce the standards that will allow parking services to become smart in the not too distant future. It is expected that cities across Europe will begin using this new standard when available. I look forward to seeing these data standards implemented in the UK and local authorities including them in their tender processes. Six hundred international delegates from more than 50 countries attended the two and a half days of presentations A great get-together I cant talk about the congress without mentioning the brilliant social events, including a welcome reception held at the Balneario del Carmen, a well-known local swimming and leisure club where delegates and exhibitors enjoyed a never-ending selection of tapas and Spanish wines. This was followed by the congress dinner at the Museum of The BPA in Europe In terms of parking, the BPA is the largest association in Europe by far. The work we do is significant compared with what other associations are able to do, and they look at the BPA as the leader in terms of what we have achieved in the past 20 years. Brexit will not prevent us from collaborating with the other parking associations to reach common goals, and the BPA will continue to work closely with the EPA. 34 britishparking.co.uk PN Nov19 pp32-35 EPA Report.indd 34 24/10/2019 15:19
