Park Mark and DPA Making the grade Here, we celebrate all the parking facilities that have received the prestigious Safer Parking Schemes Park Mark award Sweet 16 for Newcastle airport All of Newcastle International Airports car parks have been awarded the Park Mark, including the newest addition to its parking portfolio, the Premium Meet & Greet. Eric Wrightson, general manager for Newcastle Park & Fly, said: This is the 16th year in which we have been awarded Park Mark status at Newcastle Airport. I am very pleased that the airport has again received recognition for all the hard work and effort that is put into ensuring our customers, and their vehicles, are safe while on site. A Park Mark is awarded to facilities that pass a rigorous risk assessment conducted by the police and the BPA. This includes: management and maintenance of the facility; ensuring there are appropriate levels of surveillance; lighting; signage; and cleanliness. These criteria are known to reduce the opportunity for crime and, thereby, create a safer environment for the motorist and their vehicle. Ryan Davey, Safer Parking Scheme area manager, added: To be awarded the Park Mark for 16 consecutive years is an excellent achievement. Customers can be assured of high standards and areas of minimal crime and this is especially important when it comes to meet and greet services. I am delighted to be awarding the airport today. The DPA is a certification mark owned by Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK) and administered by the BPA. It focuses on improving the personal mobility of disabled motorists by recognising that off-street parking facilities are accessible to disabled people. It also identifies operators who actively manage and reduce the abuse and misuse of parking spaces provided for disabled motorists. Tendring has also achieved the Park Mark in 15 car parks. Cllr Michael Talbot, portfolio holder for environmental and public spaces, said: A lot of hard work goes into getting these awards. I am sure people who use these sites will appreciate the effort made to maintain high levels of safety and accessibility. Graham Footer, CEO of DMUK, added: Tendring Council should be applauded for achieving the DPA in 12 car parks. It shows a real commitment to making sure disabled motorists have good access to parking facilities. Over the past 12 months, despite an annual vehicle throughput of 900,000, there were no incidents recorded, which is testament to the efforts of the hospitals services operations manager Kevin Chinnery and his team. Many members of the public attend the hospital under some form of stress, so it is important that they do not have the additional burden of worrying about the safety and security of their vehicles while they are parked. Regular patrols are completed by security at Southend University Hospital, electronic surveillance is in place, and management practices were assessed to be very good. Chapman said: This is another good example of what can be achieved as a result of the dedication and diligence of all personnel concerned. I congratulate Kevin and his team for their efforts in enabling everyone who uses the site to be confident that their safety and that of their vehicles is being well catered for. The hospital is a worthy holder of the Park Mark status. This is another good example of what can be achieved as a result of the dedication and diligence of all personnel concerned 36 britishparking.co.uk PN Nov19 pp36-37 Park Mark.indd 36 24/10/2019 15:21
