I have had osteoarthritis in my knees most of my life because of an accident aged 14, when I lost a piece of bone from my right femur. And, when I was 18, my kneecap was removed. (I have just turned 60.) Dr Sarah Jarvis answered a question by Jo Cummins about terrible sleeping problems. I spent many years waking up in the night with pain, getting up, watching television, talking to the cat and making tea while waiting for paracetamol to take effect. I used all the techniques mentioned by Dr Jarvis, but they didnt solve the problem. I did not realise how debilitating it was until it stopped. What helped me was AposTherapy. I learnt about this through BUPA frankly I probably wouldnt have tried it otherwise and my first appointment was in August 2012. It was extraordinary how I got my sleep back immediately, though I gather this is quite common, and the problem has never returned. I did have quite a traumatic time for the Letters Write In youve been busy writing to us, tweeting, and posting on our forum this month here are some of your thoughts first six months because my worse knee with 40 years of adhesions and scar tissue reacted badly at first to unfamiliar demands. Since then, however, I have been largely painfree on a day-to-day basis with a full range of movement. My knees will never be perfect, but I routinely walk several miles a day, which would have been unimaginable a few years ago. I wear the Apos boots regularly and take them with me everywhere. Having spent most of my life playing for time on the knee front, it was a life-changer to discover something that could make such a difference. I very much hope that more people with severe knee pain might be able to benefit. robert newey, via email eds response: Thanks for your encouraging letter, Robert. if other readers want to know more about aposTherapy, click here Gotta lotta bottle I have bad rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. My local Co-op has begun selling four-pint plastic milk bottles with offset handles, which cause an excessive pull on my knuckles. I have complained about them, but noone seems to care. The Co-0p used to sell the standard centre handle bottles, so why change? neil, via email eds response: it could be that the new handles use less plastic than the standard ones, thus reducing packing waste. Have any other readers found this a problem? What youre tweeting @arthritis_care Just because your fatigue cant be seen doesnt mean it doesnt affect daily life.
