LETTERS Over to you Do you have something to share? Wed love to hear from you! Email us at TheLog@balpa.org or contact us on social media Sun safety Reading Be sun aware on page 7 of The Log, summer 2019, I see BALPA is advocating use of sun cream for day flights. It could be argued that sun cream is an article of personal protective equipment (PPE) and so should be provided by an employer or, at the very least, should be a tax-deductible item. Paddy Hague Airship deserves more The most recent edition of The Log pays deserved attention to Alcock and Browns West-East Atlantic crossing in June 1919. A few weeks later, an equally significant and, to my mind, just as historic crossing was made by the airship R-34. Leaving East Fortune near Edinburgh on the 2nd July 1919, the first East-West flight took 108 hours to reach Long Island, arriving with the tanks nearly empty. Setting off on the 10th July, the return trip to Norfolk took 75 hours making this the first return transatlantic flight. No aircraft was capable of making such a journey for several years afterwards because of prevailing headwinds on the westbound leg. On the 100th anniversary of the flight, there was negligible coverage of this achievement and it deserves to be better known. Jim Rogers Appy again First, thanks again for another good read of your latest edition. I have to report, however, that I was on the verge of cancelling my subscription because of the difficulty I now have reading the print. Fortunately, I found the link to the online version and, hallelujah, normal font on a white background and I calmed down again! Peter Jackson The Log reserves the right to edit letters as necessary.
