TEA BREAK Over to you Do you have something to share? Wed love to hear from you! Email us at TheLog@balpa.org or contact us on social media WHAT YOURE SHARING On British Airways If correct, #BritishAirways needs to read the mood music and stop restructuring now or govt and parliament must step in and halt this abuse of power. Ill never set foot on a BA plane if they go through with this. #backinthehold Huw Merriman MP @huwMerriman Weve received thousands of emails, letters and tweets from aviation workers and passengers concerned about their jobs, safety or money they are owed. We have heard from people from all regions of the UK. Transport Committee @CommonsTrans @British_Airways is a much-loved airline across the country, so after our response from @alex-cruz, we are urging him to redouble efforts to secure a better solution. This is a time when we all need to stand together & support the loyal workforce. Read our full letter here. Seema Malhotra @SeemaMalhotra1 (MP for Feltham and Heston) Have written to @British_Airways and IAG with many other @WelshLabour MPs and MSs regarding my deep concern and opposition to their proposals for huge job cuts and changes to terms and conditions in South Wales and across their business. BA are acing totally unethically. Stephen Doughty MP @SDoughtyMP The workers of @British_Airways deserve justice. Alongside the unions @unitetheunion @BALPApilots @GMB_union my colleague @GavNewlandsSNP has been leading the @theSNP response to BAs heartless actions. The lack of condemnation from the UK Government is unacceptable. Amy Callaghan MP @AmyCallaghanSNP With other MPS in West Sussex Ive written to the Prime Minister today continuing to call for aviation sector recovery support from CV19s impact. The success of Gatwick Airport and locally-based airlines is crucial to the prosperity of our economy. Henry Smith MP @HenrySmithUK On EasyJet Thank you to both @unitetheunion and @BALPApilots for meeting with @rach_ hopkins and I today to discuss the awful news that easyJet plan to cut 30% of staff. This is no way to treat dedicated workers, especially at a time like this. Sarah Owen MP @SarahOwen On quarantine The Governments quarantine plans face a Tory revolt when they reach the Commons this week, as a senior MP warned that it was the wrong policy that will damage the economy. Charles Hymas @charleshymas On Ryanair Ryanair is sitting on 4.1bn cash including 600m in funding from the Bank of England, and its balance sheet, in its own words, one of the strongest in the industry yet it still wants to make redundancies and impose pay cuts. BALPA @BALPApilots Our question is: what assurances did the UK Government get from Ryanair about its workers before the Bank of England handed out the cash? Funding an airline whose own state isnt offering a penny, when that airline goes on to treat its own staff like this, beggars belief. BALPA @BALPApilots Caption competition We had lots of great entries for last issues caption competition. Heres a selection of the best. Winner from last issue Si seor it has a current check A. Ivor Griffith Runners-up Some assembly required. Alexander Roberts This is why you should never park your plane in the wrong part of town. Chris joined the editorial Board in April 2004 and, over the past 16 years, has brought his own brand of humour and satire to our pages, along with many serious articles. He was a stalwart member of the team, always looking for aspects of situations that most of us couldnt see. Chris was a captain with FlyBe when it collapsed in March, becoming one of the first casualties of the effects of the pandemic on aviation. We are also losing Andy Brown. He has decided to step down from the Board after five years to take an early retirement and spend more time flying with the RAF Air Experience Flight at Benson, where he teaches cadets. Before he joined the Board, he served 16 years as a base rep and on the NEC. Since joining the Log Board in 2015, he has been our resident expert on such subjects as drones, the future cockpit and fatigue, writing many articles on these issues. His down-to-earth approach and his erudite contributions will be missed. The Board would like to take this opportunity to thank them both for their valuable contributions during their tenures and to wish them well for the future. The Log reserves the right to edit letters as necessary. Submission implies an acceptance of this condition.
