IAM feature Recognising your work In March 2023, the IAM Qualifications Recognition Programme (QRP) was launched, to recognise academic organisations that offer asset management education that is at least equivalent to IAM Certificate or Diploma level. The IAMs Jodie Williamson explains how it works The Qualifications Recognition Programme (QRP) was developed in line with our enduring objectives to promote capability and excellence in organisations and the knowledge and competence of individuals. We aim to provide structured programmes to recognise these achievements, and as part of this strategy, we endorse qualifications, training, and assessment providers. The endorsed programmes recognise high-quality and reputable services delivered by knowledgeable professionals. Endorsement is given only to organisations and individuals operating to the highest standards of integrity so that individuals, organisations, and their stakeholders can have confidence in the competence and capability of the service they choose. The launch follows successful pilots conducted with universities in Canada, Malaysia and the Netherlands. It has been developed with a robust mechanism for assessing the course content and ensuring that it aligns with the syllabus for the relevant IAM qualification. Universities can choose to be recognised at either the IAM Certificate or Diploma level, and if their application is successful, their students will be awarded with the relevant qualification on completion of the course. Author bio Jodie Williamson is Professional Development and Membership Manager at the IAM. She was previously Professional Development Lead at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society. Who is the QRP for? 1. Academic institutions offering asset management courses The QRP has been designed for academic institutions that offer asset management education either as part of a broader course, or as a stand-alone course. The courses can be part-time or full-time study, distance learning or face-to-face teaching and delivered in any language, anywhere in the world. It has been designed to be transparent and open to all, with reasonable and appropriate entry requirements. A course must meet the following criteria to become a recognised qualification: The provider must be accredited by a local quality assurance agency for higher education, for example, Quality Assurance Agency, Council for Higher Education Accreditation. The provider must be a Corporate Member of the IAM. Course material must cover all areas of the syllabus for the relevant IAM qualification. Courses must include a method of assessing students knowledge and understanding. This may be an examination, portfolio submission, marked assignments, or a combination of methods. Any course that covers asset management content equivalent to the IAM Certificate or Diploma can be recognised under the QRP, provided it meets the criteria listed above. It may be an undergraduate degree, a Masters degree, a short course on asset management, or any other course run by an academic institution. The endorsed programmes recognise highquality and reputable services delivered by knowledgeable professionals How much does it cost to gain recognition under the QRP? There are three elements to the fee: Application fee 3,000. This is payable when an application is made and before the assessment of an application commences. It covers the cost of reviewing and assessing the submitted evidence from the prospective provider. Where a provider wishes to submit more than one qualification for recognition, a separate application fee will be payable for each qualification. Renewal fee 2,500. This is payable on renewal of QRP recognition that will take place every four years. Per student fee 100. This is payable by the provider for each student who successfully completes the qualification. This covers the cost of issuing an e-certificate to the student to demonstrate that they have been awarded the appropriate IAM qualification. It has been developed with a robust mechanism for assessing the course content and ensuring that it aligns with the syllabus for the relevant IAM qualification 2. Individuals wishing to study an asset management course The QRP also offers assurance to individuals looking for a course in asset management. It allows you to select a course that offers asset management education at the level thats right for you. All courses recognised under the programme will be listed on the IAMs website, along with the IAM qualification that you will be awarded with on successful completion of the course. How do you apply to the QRP? Any academic institution offering an asset management qualification that they believe is equivalent to the IAM Certificate or Diploma should complete the QRP application form, available by emailing QRP@theiam.org. You will then be provided with access to a secure SharePoint folder where you will be able to upload course material and the completed application form. Once an academic institution submits an application to the QRP, it is reviewed by our technical assessor, who will determine whether the course content aligns to the IAM syllabus for the relevant qualification. In instances where the course content does not meet the required standard, the technical assessor will work with you to identify any gaps in course content and explore ways in which it can be added.
