From the editor-in-chief A new direction but familiar concerns Chris Fay Editor-in-chief chrisf@tsi.org.uk It was announced recently that CTSI has entered into a strategic partnership with Ashfords LLP to deliver regulatory consultancy services to businesses a joint venture that we hope will create more opportunities in the commercial environment for our members. The hard work of trading standards authorities is often in the media spotlight, as is prominently illustrated in this issue of TS Today. A multi-million pound double-glazing rm was found guilty of targeting customers with aggressive commercial practices after scamming homeowners out of thousands of pounds Dudley Trading Standards was instrumental in the investigation and in bringing the case to court. Keep an eye out in future editions, when this case will be explored in more detail. By 2020, smart meters will be rolled out as standard across England, Wales and Scotland, but there is no requirement for householders to have them installed, and concerns around the communication of the data recorded. Steve Playle looks at how they might change the way we monitor energy consumption. This edition also delves into the history of the British Hallmarking Councils Touchstone Award, a national accolade that recognises initiative taken in relation to hallmarking.
