Chris Fay Editor-in-chief chrisf@tsi.org.uk National Consumer Week is just around the corner and this years campaign, Know your new rights, will focus on the Consumer Rights Act changes that are coming into force on 1 October 2015. Youcan read more about how to support the week-long campaign in this issue. In keeping with tradition at both the Labour and Conservative party conferences, we will again be hosting two fringe events, both on scams in an ageing population. With guest speakers including JulianKnight MP, Lord Toby Harris, Jane Vass and Mike Smith, fromAge UK, the debates should be compelling and definitely not to be missed. If you arent able to make it to the political party conferences this year, dont worry; TS Today will be publishing the highlights from all the debates in the next issue. This month, the spotlight is firmly on surveillance, intellectual property and legal matters, and features successful trading standards operations that we hope you will find useful. Our lead officer for e-crime, Paul Thompson, shares his thoughts about the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act and the effect it has on local authorities as the law catches up with online criminality.
