Letters OVER TO YOU Here s your chance to have your say Get moving Heres an idea for how to get moving after a flare-up, or to gently introduce exercise into your life. Assist an elderly friend, relative or neighbour to access the Otago falls-prevention exercise classes at their local council gym. There are movement and exercise classes at most local council gyms, designed for older adults and people with differing medical needs. By helping another person to attend who cannot go alone and by joining in as their chaperone you can benefit by boosting your own fitness, too. Anne Strathspey, via email Get in touch! I loved the article on acupuncture, as I use this myself. Im so grateful for what Versus Arthritis does thank you! Mary, via telephone A walk and talk Walking out into the countryside for fresh air and exercise is a tricky one, as I have mobility problems. So I find pottering around large and small garden centres on my crutches a great way to get exercise in a relatively safe environment, meeting chums for a cuppa or an idle wander. Ive also discovered the joys of window shopping in my local supermarkets, only buying a few items, as carrying them into the house is difficult. Also, leaning on a trolley makes walking easier. Not exactly scenic and not much fresh air, I guess, but a fun way to get a good walk in. My main shop is done online, delivered to the kitchen table.
