We are here to help you better manage your arthritis, and stay active, independent and connected stop press! radio dJ Jo whiley will be the voice of our new years day appeal, which will be aired on BBc radio 4. we hope that the appeal will highlight issues around living with arthritis and encourage people to support our work. top tips for coping with pain Triumph for fundraising team Our fundraising team has been named Fundraising Team of the Year at the prestigious Third Sector Awards. The sought-after award recognises the success of the team and the challenges it has overcome in recent years. Through hard work and innovative fundraising approaches, the team has successfully launched new projects, including: the hitting of a 60,000 target for the London Marathon; developing the fundraising sections of the website to make it easier for people to donate; securing two significant grants from Big Lottery and Alliance Scotland; and developing a new donor recruitment drive to increase the number of people giving money to thecharity. The growth in donations is directly helping the charity to increase its capacity to support people with arthritis. As a result of the successful fundraising activity, were able to continue offering our free helpline service; provide information booklets on a range of topics, from working with arthritis to managing pain; host an online forum and arrange activities weekends for young people with arthritis. The Third Sector Awards are held annually and recognise the achievements of organisations and individuals across the charity sector. the duke of westminster we were saddened to hear of the death of our patron, his grace the duke of westminster, in august. our thoughts are with his family at this time. we would like to take this opportunity to recognise the outstanding contribution that his grace made to the work of arthritis care over many years. weve been encouraging people who live with joint pain to share their tips for making everyday life easier, and have released a new booklet, 40 Bright Ideas for Living Well with Joint Pain. around one million people live with joint pain in the uK, which can make everyday tasks such as hanging up washing, shopping and making a cup of tea extremely challenging. the practical tips focus on small changes that make daily activities easier, and include things such as taking regular exercise, wearing gloves in bed, taking regular breaks at work and using coat hangers to hang up washing. one of the contributors to the booklet is bbc news journalist Julian worricker, who has lived witharthritis for 15 years. The event, which took place in Manchester, was an opportunity for people to receive tips and support on runs from 8-14 may 2017. have a look living with joint pain.
