Erins pedal power for Children in Need A teenager with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) was part of a six-strong team pedalling a rickshaw across England to raise money for thisyears BBC children in need appeal Free BooKlet e rin, 18, from Scotland, was diagnosed with JIA when shewas eight years old and the condition has affected themajority of her joints. In the past, she has undergone surgery on her ankles and is currently awaiting surgery on her jaw. Despite this, her and her team-mates completed a gruelling 470-mile rickshaw journey from Lands End in Cornwall, to the BBC Elstree studios, near London, in just eight days. The team which appeared on BBC1s The One Show to launch the charity appeal set off on 6 November and crossed the finish line on 13 November, just in time for the annual Children in Need TV show. Erin first got involved in Arthritis Care Scotlands Joint Potential project as a participant and went on to become a volunteer on the Joint Creativity project. The funding that Arthritis Care Scotland received from the Children in Need charity has seen the Joint Creativity project extended to 10-18 year olds. arthritis Care also has a new, free booklet for parents, My child has arthritis, both in print and available to download at www.arthritiscare. org.uk/mychild.
