ADC The ABC of ADC A who, what and where of the latest ADC conference F or BALPA to be The voice of UK pilots, it is vital we gauge what is important to BALPA members. At ADC, pilots your representatives get to meet, exchange ideas and put the issues that are affecting UK flight crew under a microscope. The event includes speeches by prominent industry experts, an overview of the work of all BALPA departments, and a chance for delegates to ask questions. A is for setting the agenda The event helps reps and staff determine what is important for British pilots in the current climate, work out what BALPAs priorities will be for the next year and define how we push forward in those areas. This year, topics on the agenda included Reduced Crew Operations (RCO), the regulatory environment post-Brexit, the future industrial landscape, equality and diversity, and much more. Sam Walkinshaw, BALPAs Interim Executive President, opened this years Annual Delegates Conference by paying tribute to former Executive President, Paul Naylor. Lord Richard Balfe, BALPAs Honorary President, presented the keynote speech with the message that Unity is strength emphasising the importance of building relationships and a collective voice for pilots. Recent years have seen huge changes in the aviation industry as we strive to recover post Covid, and tackle the challenges that arose from Brexit. BALPA continues to lobby in these areas. Guest speaker at ADC, Glenn Bradley, CAA Head of Flight Operations, focused his speech on insights on the post-Brexit regulatory landscape, the possible opportunities this presents, and how BALPA can contribute. Learning from the past has played an important role in helping aviation achieve its enviable safety record. Our delegates saw Emma Truswell (AAIB Senior Ops Inspector) and Andrew Zucker (BALPA AAP) discuss accident investigation, and what our AAP reps do to support members in need. Planning for industrial action At BALPA, we work hard to protect the piloting profession, secure better pay deals, and improve working conditions for pilots. There are many strategies to achieve our goals, and industrial action can play a crucial role in the process. Speaking at ADC, 24 THE LOG Win 24 pp24-25 The ABC of ADC.indd 24 01/12/2023 14:48
