All display pilots who have a valid Display Authorisation (DA) and intend to act as an AFDD at any event, from 1st January 2021 onwards, are required to have successfully completed the online AFDD course and, therefore, be AFDD accredited. SN-2021/002 General Considerations for Managing Distractions During Aviation Activities Distractions to people when they are working are common everywhere and have been noted as a contributing human factors element in many aviation safety events across all areas of the industry. Distractions may be even more likely at the present time, during the COVID-19 pandemic, because normal workflows may have been changed or disrupted. The purpose of this Safety Notice is to support the industry to find ways to avoid, or mitigate, distractions when they happen. It should be read alongside SN 2020/11 on Human Factors. SN2021/003 Fatigue Management Guidance for AOC Holders During COVID-19 Changing Conditions This Safety Notice (SN) discusses the need to consider the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the fatigue management approaches AOC holders are using to support flight and cabin crew. The purpose of this Safety Notice is to promote the importance of managing fatigue within the organisations operational context, including its impact on those involved in management and maintenance of crew rosters (as required by ORO. FTL.250). The current methods of assessing and managing crew fatigue may require additional considerations and measures to identify and mitigate fatigue risks. It makes recommendations on approaches to take, particularly as the industry seeks to return to increased operations in the coming months. SN2021/004 Update to European Withdrawal Act (2018) The European Union Withdrawal act (2018) has brought across all EU legislation into UK domestic law that was in force and applicable on or before 31st December 2020. Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/745 of 4th June 2020 amended the original applicable dates of Regulation (EU) 2018/1042 of 14th August 2020 by introducing a delay of six months to 14th February 2021, as a consequence of the COVID-19 crisis. The result is that this applicability date for the regulation fell beyond 31st December 2020 and has not come across as part of the Withdrawal Act. The subject regulation relates particularly to the introduction of support programmes for flight crew, psychological assessment of flight crew, and policy for the prevention and detection of misuse of psychoactive substances by flight crew, cabin crew and other safety-sensitive personnel. The UK recognises the importance of supporting flight crew wellbeing through this regulation and this will now be addressed, at a later date to be determined, in discussion under the UKs Rule Making Programme and amendment to the retained air regulation. This SN supersedes SN-2020/009. TECH LOG PILOTS ADVISORY GROUP
