Noticeboard Trading standards officer named in New Years Honours Carol Garrett A Suffolk Trading Standards officer has been named in the Queens New Years Honours list. Carol Garrett, trading standards team leader of border controls, which is hosted by Suffolk Trading Standards, was made an OBE for services to border control, trading standards and businesses. Garrett, who leads the National Trading Standards team responsible for border controls for the purposes of consumer safety across the country, is a UK market surveillance authority expert. She gives advice togovernment on border controls, represents the UK at EU meetings, and works with organisations to reduce the impact of fraudulent activity on those who operate legitimately. Her team is also the link between HMRevenue and Customs, the UK Border Force and all market surveillance authorities. Garrett works with other enforcement agencies to ensure coordinated controls to achieve high levels of consumer safety and protection of the environment and businesses. Her team has stopped a number of unsafe products at the border before they could be sold on to unsuspecting customers including thousands of dangerous hoverboards leading to worldwide recognition. She gave advice to the Danish and Jamaican governments on the safety issues surrounding the product. Garrett said of her honour: Im thrilled to bits. Ever since I was told I was going to receive it, Ive been living on a high. Its huge recognition that what youre doing is valued. It was such a surprise and very exciting Ive been itching to tell everyone about it! Its also quite humbling. I would like to thank the team, as its not just me its the hard work they put in that is being recognised as well. Matthew Hicks, Suffolk County Councils cabinet member for environment and public protection, said: Carols dedication to stopping fake and dangerous goods entering Suffolk and, indeed, the rest of the UK is something to be admired. Call for new lead officers CTSI is looking for new recruits to join the ranks of lead officer in four areas of trading standards expertise. Lead officers are expected to beexperts in their field, with a passion for communicating the issues to the media and CTSI, working with the institute to respond to consultations and attend events throughout the year. Because of the loss or impending departure of some current lead officers and having examined itsnetwork in terms of coverage andcapacity CTSI is now looking to recruit lead officers in the following areas: F air trading Animal health and welfare Property/lettings sector Motor trade Craig McClue, CTSIs lead officer and policy executive, said: New appointments will form part of our ongoing efforts to focus on priority areas and key policy positions.
