Noticeboard Chair of CTSI board recognised with MBE A leading voice in consumer and regulatory policy, acclaimed for her outstanding contributions to trading standards, has been recognised in the Queens Birthday Honours list. Carol Brady, from Swadlincote, chair of CTSIs board, is to be made MBE for services to consumers and better regulation. Leon Livermore, CTSI chief executive, said: Carol has an impressive 30-year career, with achievements ranging from front-line advice to a central government director of service improvement. The leading role Carol played in establishing Consumer Direct shows the passion and commitment that sets her apart from others. Under Carols leadership, CTSI has gained prestigious chartered status from the Privy Council and developed a vision for the delivery of trading standards that supports the governments productivity review. Carol is a true asset and friend to CTSI, and Im so pleased to see her tremendous efforts recognised with this Queens honour. Consumer Direct was established across the country and streamlined the access to advice and support across more than 220 local authority areas. Citizens Advice Consumer Service has now taken over that responsibility. Brady was chosen to lead the government review of claims management, a highly contentious area, which demonstrates the faith the government, consumers and businesses have in her. In addition to her already substantial portfolio, she acts as a warden for the Birmingham Assay Ofce, a non-executive director for TrustMark and as an independent advisory member of the Commission for the Local Government Ombudsman. Brady, said: I am honoured and humbled to have been included in the Queens Birthday honours, and am, of course, delighted to receive such recognition. I consider this to be an acknowledgement for the work that the whole of the trading standards profession does in protecting consumers and legitimate businesses, and I am happy to have played a small part in that throughout my career. We assess the role of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in consumer complaints as an easier and quicker alternative to taking a case to the small claims court. Recall steering group created A new Recall Review Steering Group has been established by Business Minister Anna Soubry following the product recalls review, published earlier this year. The group will work with government to improve product safety in the UK, after publication of the independent review of the UK recall system, conducted by consumer campaigner Lynn Faulds Wood. Made up of those who contributed to the review, the group brings together a cross-section of stakeholders and includes representatives of manufacturers and retailers, as well as legal, technical and market surveillance experts.
