Editors comment The right fit Louise Parfitt considers the many hats of the parking sector When the BPA team and I were planning content for this issue, it struck me and not for the first time how parking cuts across so many sectors and impacts on so many issues, from active travel to safety and solar power generation. Parkings role in ensuring safe movement and accessibility for all was emphasised in the speeches at this years BPA Presidents Reception (see pages 34-37). And when we consider the service boards and interest groups represented at the recent BPA elections (see pages 40-41), we are reminded again of the cross-section of society and industry with which we work and whom we serve. Its obvious the government is very aware of the impact that well-managed parking can have, considering the time it has taken to build its response following the withdrawal of its first attempt at the Parking Code last year. Theres updates on matters relating to this and, as always, the BPA team is here to keep you informed and help you to prepare (see pages 44-45). This issue, we also hear from local authorities across the UK involved with school streets schemes (see pages 14-16) that are designed to ease congestion, stop antisocial and often dangerous parking, and prevent air pollution concentrating around the places where the youngest members of society learn and play. Remember, next month is the Scotland Expo, so be sure to register for this event, which will look at the swathe of issues with which our sector contends every day (see page 21).
