IAM news Latest stories from and about the Institute Asset management in a changing world The IAM North America Conference 2023 is taking place in Toronto, Canada, at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from 23-25 October. The theme for 2023 is Asset management in a changing world and the conference provides the opportunity for our asset management community to engage with speakers, delegates, and exhibitors about the latest developments. We live in a changing world, and our approach to asset management must adapt to take advantage of technological progress, respond to climate challenges, and address social and economic futures. The conference aims to bring together industry professionals and experts to discuss the current state of asset management and its future trajectory in light of rapidly evolving socioeconomic, technological, and climate conditions. There will be keynote speeches, interactive panel discussions, and case studies from leading practitioners in the field. We will explore topics such as innovative investment and prioritisation strategies, the integration of sustainable and ESG practices, the impact of new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the internet of things (IOT) on asset management, and climate change. The event will provide valuable insights and practical tools for asset managers seeking to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing world. Join us in Toronto to share your knowledge and experiences with hundreds of asset management professionals from North America, and beyond. Speakers will be selected from submitted abstracts with a selection panel ensuring a diverse range of views, thought leadership, and best practices are presented, creating a unique learning and sharing experience for delegates. The deadline for submission of abstracts is 5 May 2023. Please submit your abstract today. An early bird discounted rate is available if you book before 30 June 2023. For non-members to take advantage of the early bird rate, you need to join the IAM. To avoid disappointment, book your ticket today. IAM/ALN joint white paper The IAM and the Asset Leadership Network (ALN) were delighted to publish a joint white paper on asset management leadership earlier this year. The paper outlines key characteristics of leadership to assist asset management organisations in achieving mission success. It identifies that leaders exist at all levels of an organisation, and covers the roles leaders play at those different levels to harness untapped organisational potential. The paper also highlights what leaders can do to support advancing asset management in an organisation. It concludes with some reflections on why this is a decisive decade for asset management leadership. An interactive webinar was held to discuss the paper and get views on the areas presented. This was held on Tuesday 14 February and included key authors, Ursula Bryan, IAM CEO, and Jim Dieter, ALN CEO. IFS Enterprise Asset Management Software Ensure reliable assets, resource optimization and business resilience to be your best when it matters most. ifs.com Spotlight on: IAM UK Chapter The UK Chapter was established with the aim of sharing and promoting learning and good practice across the many sectors where asset management plays a vital role in delivering value to society and commerce. We currently have nine branches, which are in a range of maturity and activity states. These include: Aberdeen, Cumbria, Eastern, London South, Midlands, North East, North West, Scotland and South West branches. Typical infrastructure and asset-intensive sectors are well represented in our chapter, with some emerging sectors looking at asset management as an approach to deliver increased value. Key issues for our members include the continued need for learning and capability improvement to enable organisations to improve their delivery of good, embedded asset management processes. They also want to really embrace planning for the long term and move away from both a short-term reactive and sometimes regulatory period constrained planning approach. We like to offer support through sharing knowledge and experiences from local branch meetings up to national conferences. Our UK Chapter Excellence Awards also recognise and share successes, and we provide a learning journey through progressive qualifications from the Foundation Award through to Professional Registration. Were proud of meeting our target of gaining 1,000 members by 2022, and delivering successful awards and conferences. Our Chapter encourages members to engage with each other as well as take advantage of IAM volunteering opportunities. We also love to share achievements through Assets articles! One of the challenges we face is for our profession to gain recognition, with the IAM being the first professional body of choice. And looking forwards, we want to continue to learn, share and grow.
