
OB I T UA R I E S BERNHARD BERNIE SCHAAF The founder and former CEO of IMS International Moving Service, in Frankfurt, Germany, died on 11 January A ccording to colleagues, Bernie was a true self-made man and can be considered one of the foremost leaders in the international moving business in the German market. Having worked in the moving industry for 13 years, Bernie founded IMS in 1972, aged 33. Within 10 years, he had expanded his company and opened branches in a further four German cities, plus another in Cairo, Egypt, in 1982. In the same year, he was named Ambassador of the Year by Allied Van Lines. He eventually sold all the companys branches to their local managers, giving them the opportunity to develop their own businesses. In 2008, Bernie was forced to retire, as his Parkinsons disease had become too severe to allow him to pursue business activities further. He sold IMS to the family-operated company Christ Umzge, headquartered in Heilbronn, Germany. Bernie was an inspiration to anyone who had the privilege of working with him. FLEMMING DE KRAK The former CEO of Inter Express in Denmark, has died at the age of 69 A well-known and respected person in the international moving community, Flemming had a long-time involvement in the Harmony Network. He also played an active role in FIDI Denmark, including several terms as President, and many years as Secretary/Treasurer. He leaves a wife, daughter, son and grandchildren.
