F ID I C H A RI T Y GOING FOR GOLD! MALCOLM PEARSON, REASON GLOBAL, OFFICIAL SPONSOR, BRIGHTON AND LONDON, UK: Having sponsored the FIDI Conference Charity Fun Run in previous years, we were thrilled when FIDI devised a fresh and different way to raise funds for the OSH charity. We know it is a big commitment in time and effort, but we also feel it will be an experience never to be forgotten, so were delighted to lend our support. Challenge Central has made it clear that, whether an experienced cyclist or not, the support is there to complete the ride together and we hope that as many Affiliates as possible sign up. Who knows? You may even meet some of the Reason Global team close to our offices in London or along the route! JAY RYAN, BRYTOR INTERNATIONAL MOVING INC, TORONTO, CANADA As an avid cyclist I was very excited to join this ride as soon as I heard it was happening. All of our charitable programmes here at Brytor International are dedicated to childrens charities, so the opportunity to raise funds for OSH made the companys decision to back my efforts all the easier. I love to travel and have often told my wife I want to take my bicycle along on our vacations which she has never allowed. This ride gives me that opportunity while, at the same time, raising money for a good cause. I have set a personal goal to raise $2,500 and, so far, at the start of December, I have already raised $2,000. I have been sharing the details of my ride on Facebook, with our company vendors, staff, friends and family. As the ride gets closer I am sure I will exceed my goal, and every additional dollar raised is just that much sweeter. 22 FF289FebMar19 pp22-23 Cycling.indd 22 As that old phrase goes, shoot for the moon and the worst well do is hit the stars. We take one last look at the training and fundraising efforts ahead of the Cycle Challenge 2019 MANUELA HENK FROM HENK INTERNATIONAL, DSSELDORF, GERMANY I registered because I like challenges, personal and professional ones. In 2018, we participated in a cross and mud run called Xletix as a team of 14 people from the company, because we all like exercise and challenges, and it was a lot of fun. So I wanted to have a new (physical) challenge for 2019. I have always loved cycling, as I grew up in the north of Germany and it was simply the only way as a teenager to be mobile. Then it went out of my mind for no particular reason, but last year I started regular cycling again. So far, Ive not had many opportunities for a proper training session, but I know the enthusiasm is there and I enjoy taking part in a team, which is what the tour to Amsterdam will be. I am looking forward to meeting the other participants and hope that our fitness levels are similar better to say I hope my fitness level is as good as theirs! I am looking forward to it.
