After two months as a search and rescue (SAR) pilot at RAF Leuchars, I was beginning to settle in. My complacency was dispelled on a night scramble of 16th August. I trust memory serves accurately to reflect the events of that night. A climber had suffered a fall in Glen Clova. Manning the mighty Walter Wessex XT 604, the three crew set off into the dark.
