THE LOG BOARD Try something new this year Join the Log Board and help make your magazine great! few egregiously misinformed souls may beg to differ, but the Log Board is the most prestigious and illustrious committee within BALPA. But the stresses and strains of such power, influence and authority bear a heavy toll and, as a result, the Board membership numbers have slightly dwindled. That, and everyone leaving the workforce post-Covid (apparently). So nows the time to try something new, and join us on the editorial board. Were looking for volunteers to put their bodies and minds on the line, step up to the editorial and content-producing plate, and benefit from such delights as: free BALPA membership for life; 1 million signing-on fee; unlimited use of our extensive legal services department; a personal FTL expert on 24-hour speed dial to answer your discretion queries whatever time zone youre in; Heston Blumenthal food personally cooked at every committee meeting, and most impressively of all a special gold lam BALPA lanyard instantly denoting your membership of this exclusive and exalted team*. All we ask in exchange is that you have, at the very least: some tenuous link to aviation; that you give up some of your time to attend four meetings a year at BALPA HQ; that you contribute content on a semi-regular basis; that you can make use of adjectives at least five syllables long in regular conversation and you can demonstrate your understanding of semi-colons, the difference between protasis and apodosis clauses, and the heinous crime of split infinitives. And, of course, the ability to use your and youre correctly. If there are any willing and brave members out there, wed love to hear from you. There are a series of challenges to prove your intellectual and emotional capacity ahead of you (including a timed event on the amount of BALPA orange chicken you can stomach in 10 minutes while proofreading an article on space weather written in the style of James Joyce). Assuming you pass these high but not insurmountable hurdles, you will be gladly welcomed into the warm and cosy Team Log. * Items listed above may not be entirely true, or are awaiting sign-off from the Executive President (expected any day now).
