European Parking Association A European perspective Kelvin Reynolds, BPA chief technical services officer, attended the EPA annual general meeting in Brussels on 15 September, which marked the beginning of a new chapter in the associations history he European Parking Association (EPA) may be a mystery to many, but that is all about to change as the EPA reinvents itself and rejuvenates its intentions. The national parking associations of 23 nations across Europe work together, through the EPA, to share knowledge and develop common standards it is an association of associations, if you like. The BPA has been a full member of the EPA for more than 25 years. T EPA 2.0 In recent times, the EPA has recognised that it needs to change and become more agile and proactive. In 2022, it developed a proposal to transform itself into a well-funded lobbying and research organisation, better able to represent the interests of the European parking sector. At the 2022 AGM, EPA members unanimously agreed to give the EPA Board the mandate to implement this transformation. A governance working group was established to guide the transformation, and I was privileged to be invited to contribute to this important work. Learning much from the way in which the BPA is organised and operates, the EPA will be transformed. Its headquarters will move to Brussels to be closer to the European Union Commission and other important entities such as the Election news Former chair of the BPA Board and BPA Council member Nigel Williams has been elected as the EPA President, having held the position for 12 months as interim President. He was re-elected to the EPA Board and confirmed as President for a full two-year term at the AGM. BPA Service Board member Manny Rasores was re-elected to the EPA Policy and Strategy Committee. Both have served the BPA well in recent years as members of these two influential EPA bodies. 34 PN Oct 2023 pp34-35 EPA Conference.indd 34 25/09/2023 11:45
