14:29 Editors comment Newsworthy No summer recess for the parking sector, notes Louise Parfitt August is traditionally known as a slow news month, when not much happens but not so this year in the parking world. The government launching its call for evidence on the Private Parking Code of Practice on 30 July might not have been ideal, what with it being peak holiday season in the UK, but the BPA has been busy developing resources to ensure members voices get heard (see pages 8-9 and 44-45). Look out for more support and guidance this month on the BPA website. London Councils has also launched a consultation on the penalty charge levels for parking, bus lane and moving traffic violations in London boroughs (see pages 12-13). In addition, there is news of a DVLA review and responses to the governments recent negative comments about low traffic neighbourhoods. Kelvin Reynolds considers the governments apparent U-turn on this and on clean air zones as it positions itself as being on the side of the motorist as we draw nearer to a general election, and the conundrums this presents for local authorities (see pages 47-48). Wales brings in its new 20mph limit for residential roads this month, the logistics of which will be considered at next months Welsh conference (see page 27). Meanwhile, Lee Waters MS takes us through the reasons for making the change (see pages 42-43). I look forward to seeing you at this months Parking Scotland Expo (pages 18-20) where issues like these and more will be discussed.
