Parking and Transport Wales Conference 2023 Ready for action The Parking and Transport Wales Conference returns next month after a three-year break. Louise Parfitt finds out what is in store his event is such an important one in the BPA calendar, but even more so this year because it is the first face-to-face Parking and Transport Wales Conference since the pandemic, explains Michelle Boshoff-Turner, BPA communications and marketing manager. The 2020 Welsh conference was cancelled because it was due to be held just as the first national Covid lockdown was announced, and we were all so disappointed. However, were back, and its set to be a great event. Planning is in full swing for the conference, which takes place in Swansea on 18 October. Up for discussion One of the big topics of the day will be enforcement, with a session led by Richard Mallon, BPA Parking and Transport Wales group secretary, Russell Hamblin-Boone, CEO of CIVEA (the Civil Enforcement Association), and Chris Nichols, CEO of the Enforcement Conduct Board (ECB). The session will include an introduction to the ECB and its importance for the parking enforcement sector. There will also be a session on persistent evaders, led by Alan Wood, of the National Persistent Evader Database, and further discussion of enforcement issues. Another focus will be on mobility hubs. APCOA will be talking about the launch, earlier this year, of its mobility hub in Carmarthen. It will be joined by Compleo, which was also part of the project, to share learnings from opening the first Welsh mobility hub. The third main topic will be electric vehicle charging and infrastructure. There will also be time dedicated to the Private Parking Code of Practice, as well as the recent implementation of the 20mph limit on residential roads in Wales, to share best practice and any issues encountered to date. Talking points There will be further chances for sharing best practice and innovation at the exhibition, and plenty of opportunities for networking, with a lunch courtesy of Andrew James Enforcement and a drinks reception at the end of the day, courtesy of Excel Civil Enforcement. There will also be a keynote speaker, who will wrap up the conference with Peter Lowe, chair of Parking and Transport Wales.
