People in Parking Awards Shining stars The stories behind this years People in Parking and Ernest Davies Award winners. Congratulations to all those who triumphed and those who were nominated Ernest Davies Award winner Rod Williamson, city services team leader, City of Lincoln Council I entered because I occasionally enjoy doing a bit of writing. The issue of the article suicide prevention, and my experiences around it drove me to put pen to paper. It is something that has cropped up again and again in my role as a parking manager. It literally is a matter of life and death. When I have had incidents on my sites, it changes you. I hope the article triggers thought and action from all staff who deal with multi-storey car parks. By sharing good practice, we can help others to develop their own responses. Also the BPA has been doing some great work in this area with its webinars and group working. Together, we can make a real difference. I was flattered and honoured to win the prestigious Ernest Davies Award, but my experiences have been as a team and working with tremendous partners on the police side, too so this is also down to their great work. Ernest Davies Award runner-up Craig Taylor, strategic parking manager, Cornwall Council I am very proud that my submission was highly commended by the judges, and also very happy that the Ernest Davies Award was won by my local authority colleague Rod Williamson. I hope that my article highlighted the wider importance of car parks to local communities, beyond just a place to park cars, and that it created a greater awareness of the Devolution Agenda that is being promoted by central government, but actually delivered at a local authority level. Craigs article Double Devolution Lynchpin can be read at bit.ly/PNMar22DD He will also be providing an edited version for the April issue of Parking News. You can read an edited version of Rods winning article Preventing tragedy and trauma on pages 40-41.
