COMPANIES News Basingstoke goes cashless with RingGo Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has upgraded all of its cashless parking to use RingGo. Based in Basingstoke since 2002, RingGo first appeared as an alternative to coins at the train station in 2010. And, although one car park in the town has offered RingGo for several years, the council had mostly used Parkmobile as its cashless option. With RingGo now offered by 138 local authorities across the UK, the council decided to rationalise its parking to make it simpler for motorists. The move means that just one mobile app will be needed for parking payments across the whole town. The new RingGo solution also allows motorists to reserve up to an hours free parking, straight from their mobile phone, rather than visiting a pay and display machine. No convenience fee is charged for these free periods, and drivers can use RingGo to extend beyond this time if they wish. Newcomers to RingGo will also benefit from no longer having to remember to stop their parking session, because the service operates like pay and display parking, with a choice at the outset of how long the user wishes to stay. Peter ODriscoll, UK country manager for RingGo and Parkmobile, said: We are extremely pleased that the council has decided to move all its cashless parking to RingGo, and believe that offering a single solution will increase usage both in the town centre and at the train station. RingGo was born in Basingstoke, so its great for us finally to be available right across the borough. The councils cabinet member for communities and community safety, Simon Bound, said: Phone parking is a quick and easy way to pay for parking, especially when so few people carry coins. It complements the existing quick and simple payment options we have introduced in our car parks, including check in and check out parking.
