OB I T UA RI E S Steve Lewis D utch mover Voerman International announced the death of Steve Lewis on August 30, 2022. He was 56 years old. A company statement said: It is with great sadness and disbelief that we must inform you of our dear colleague, business partner and friend Steve Lewis, who yesterday suddenly passed away. Steve was born in Cardiff, Wales, in 1965, younger brother to his two sisters, Wendy and Debbie. He was the favourite uncle of nieces, Meg and Beth, and nephews, Frankie and Sonny. Colleague Pauline Collins said: Although he lived overseas for almost 30 years, travelled the world with his job and called Malaysia home, Steve never forgot his Welsh roots and was a patriotic Welshman. He was always a great and passionate sportsman and, in his school years, played rugby, football (where he played in goal), darts and golf. An interesting fact about Steve that not many people knew was that he was also the local Subbuteo [table football] champion. He studied at Sheffield University where he made lifelong friends and it was during his uni years that he discovered his love of travel. Steve travelled extensively during his career. He began in Germany washing dishes in a castle hotel and moved to building work in the US, before heading to Hong Kong and China, where he met his wife, Yan Chun, known as Andie. He became gym manager at the Holiday Inn and Hilton Hotel and was one of the founding members of the Beijing beer and darts club. He played rugby for many teams throughout Asia including the Beijing Devils, Shanghai Hairy Crabs, Guan Jo Rams, Hong Kong Happy Valleys and for the Royal Selangor Club in Kuala Lumpur. When his playing years came to an end, he continued to share his passion for rugby by coaching local young teams; he made lifelong friends all around the world through the sport. Warm personality During his time in Asia, Steve discovered the relocation industry, and this very quickly became a new passion. He worked for some of the leading global companies and became founder and owner of FIDI Affiliate My Moving Mobility in Malaysia; he will be greatly missed by the team there. In 2015, he joined the Voerman Group. A company tribute said: Throughout his career at Voerman, he managed strategic clients, trained the team, and mentored young talent. He set up the Voerman presence in Asia with Asian Mobility Services and was working to grow the talent in the area as well. Thinking back with great memories of Steve, we will remember how committed he was to the industry, his sense of humour, his warm personality, and the way he could tell stories. In addition to his role as a FIDI trainer, conference host (who will ever forget that opening roll call in Cannes), he also volunteered for many committees and was very vocal about improving our industry, particularly the implementation of technology. Steve was an active member of FIDI. He was a trainer for the FIDI Academy and a longstanding member of FIDIs PCGs Committee and FIDI Mediation Committee. He also served on the IAMs Ethics Council and the Hall of Honor Selection Committee. Larger than life Tributes, memories and anecdotes about Steve have been shared from across the industry. FIDI Secretary General Jesse van Sas said: Steve was larger than life. A real personality in our industry and a long-time friend. Many memories cross my mind, from hilarious drinking games, co-training a FIDI EiM seminar in Miami, working together on RFP responses, 80 FF308 Dec-Jan 23 pp80-81 Obit.indd 80 05/12/2022 17:25
