RONALD SMITH O B IFTUARI E ATU RE ES C hampion International Moving has announced the death of its founder Ron Smith, aged 67. The Pittsburgh-based firm said he died at the end of September, just after leaving the office. Ron began his moving career at Ocean Air International, before heading up a group that founded Champion in 1991. He served as its President and CEO. The business was bought by Atlas World Group in March 2019. Ebru Demirel, FIDI President, said: Rons sudden departure at a young age broke our hearts. He was loved by many, not only because of his success but also because he was so humble and always had such a positive attitude. I, for one, can say that, whenever I met him, he would greet me with a warm smile and go out of his way to make me feel welcome. My condolences to his family and colleagues at Champion. ARNAUD BENOIT W e are deeply saddened to announce the sudden death of Arnaud Benoit, former FIDI France President. Arnaud was well known within the FIDI community with a long and distinguished career in the industry, having served in senior management positions at several FIDI-affiliated companies including Sterling France, Gamblin, AGS and most recently Delahaye Moving. As FIDI France President from 2014 to 2019, Arnaud served diligently, supporting FIDI France members and contributing positively to the FIDI community, including being involved with the selection of France as FIDIs next conference location. Outside of work, he was a proud father to his son, Alexis. He was passionate about hunting and rode regularly with his son in local forests. FIDI France President Sophie Lucas, who attended his funeral together with industry colleagues Jean-Luc Haddad and Fabien Limoges, expressed her sadness on behalf of FIDI France members. Arnaud was recognised for his deep respect for his employees. He had at heart the recognition of his employees - they are the lifeblood of the company and it is they who make it so valuable, she said. A man turned towards human values of which his career is the proof. His passing now impacts the entire profession, his colleagues as well as his family to whom we send our sincere condolences. FIDI General Manager Jesse van Sas added: This is another blow to our industry, and I am very saddened by Arnauds sudden passing. Arnaud was an extremely thoughtful, kind and considerate man, with passion for the moving business and a very professional sense of duty for his role, both as business manager and former FIDI France President.
