Spotlight As told to: Phil Lattimore I will have been with the charity for 15 years in May. Before joining Versus Arthritis, I worked in finance and as a personal assistant in business systems IT, where I ran the firms community fundraising work. I got so much enjoyment from it that, when I took voluntary redundancy, I decided to find a job in the third sector. When I joined, I wasnt aware of the full impact of arthritis or the number of conditions under that umbrella term. But very quickly I became involved in the work and the purpose of the charity, trying to make life better for people living with arthritis. That really has inspired me. I get a real buzz from helping someone whos been struggling to find a solution Its wonderful that the voices of people with arthritis are now being heard. Were increasingly informed by people of all ages who are living with arthritis, making sure that what were doing meets their needs. I currently work on organisational awards, funding charitable activities that aim to make a change and benefit people. Were funding external bodies to deliver pieces of work, and Im there to provide guidance and support to ensure we get the best value for money. Each day is different. I could be setting up a new call for applications, getting teams to design the call, or working on how to communicate applications externally. I could be putting applications through an expert review process or we could be working with external partner funders, like we have recently with Sport England. My director says were the engine room. We try to enable everybody else to do their job, so they can concentrate on whats important in their knowledge areas. When people thank me for what weve done to make their life easier, its lovely. I get a real buzz from helping someone whos been struggling to find a solution. Outside of work, I love gardening and walking, but my main passion is crown green bowls. Ive played for Derbyshire, and twice represented England at lawn green bowling. I want to make a difference. When I see someone whos on a treatment weve funded or supported in delivering thats helping to change the quality of their life it makes me quite emotional.
