Reducing doorstep crime, particularly that involving bogus tradesman or utility officials is one of our main priorities and educating residents is an essential role in addressing this. This package of information is designed to provide practical information on how to avoid becoming a victim of doorstep crime, along with other useful information on a range of consumer issues. In the past year members of the Partnership have worked hard to develop and deliver new activities to identify, disrupt and bring to justice those who commit doorstep crime. This has included targeted operations to catch offenders, expanding the coverage of “No Cold Calling Zones” and developing new schemes with Banks and Building Societies to protect those most vulnerable to the activities of these offenders. Much has been achieved and we are proud of the progress that has been made in reducing levels of crime within Bromley. However, we cannot be complacent in our efforts to make Bromley a safer place. We will continue to work with all our partners to prevent crime and we hope that, armed with the useful guidance and advice contained within this pack, you will be able to assist in closing the door firmly on these offenders and making it clear that they will not be allowed to operate within Bromley.TRADING STANDARDS ADVICE FOR OLDER CONSUMERS Local Contact Details Bromley Trading StandardsWebsite: www.bromley.gov.uk For consumer enquiries concerning goods and services Trading Standards Rapid Response - 07903 852090 Specifically for door step crime related calls, for example to notify Bromley Council of a suspicious door step caller in your area.Citizens Advice Bromley Beckenham and Penge Orpington Website: www.citizensadvice.org.uk Age UK Tel: 020 8315 1878 Web site: www.acbromley.org.uk Local Fire & Rescue: 08000 28 44 28 (For home safety checks) Website: www.london-fire.gov.uk Local Police: Find your local neighbourhood team at www.met.police.uk DIAL 101 TO CONTACT THE POLICE: You can call 101 to report a crime that has already happened, seek crime prevention advice or make us aware of any policing issues in your local area.
