SIG/RG NEWS SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS Charities SIG goes global Since the launch of its Getting started campaign in January, IRMs charity SIG has gone from strength to strength. Supported by Crowe Clark Whitehill, Price Bailey and Arthur J Gallagher, SIG members have presented to those dealing with risk in charities at four events across England. The groups Rebecca Bowry, from Diabetes UK, also travelled to Dublin, Ireland, for an event hosted by Ecclesiastical, to launch an Irish charity network group. The next free breakfast training seminar for charities is happening on 7 July at the Crow Clark Whitehill offices in London, UK. The seminars theme will be Risk Training and will discuss strategies and techniques to train senior managers and wider stakeholders on risk. Its first meeting takes place on the afternoon of 9 September on the theme Risk management culture and conduct risk for banks and financial services and how to create an audit plan for conduct risk. The following session, on 4 November, will cover The role of CROs and risk professionals in banks and the financial sector, now and in the future. Both meetings will be held at IRM HQ in London. Let it have your views by completing the survey at www.surveymonkey.com/r/ ERMinInsuranceSIG2015 The group met in London on 16 June to hear from Gideon Benari of Solvency II Wire and Yurik Krvavych of PwC on Making risk MI useful. The survey suggested an increased demand for risk management information (MI), the number of committees being reported to and frequency of reporting. All this is leading to growing interest in the automation of reporting and the improvement of MI production controls. The next meeting of the group is on 15 September at IRMs offices in London, and will revisit risk culture. Given recent interest from the Financial Stability Board, Financial Reporting Council and Financial Conduct Authority, more organisations are seeking to address the issues without being overcome by the regulatory drivers. The speakers will be Anthony Fitzsimmons, director of Reputability LLP, David Rorrison, senior Solvency II development consultant at Just Retirement, and Kevin Borrett, chief risk officer with UNUM. Katja Reiger, Swiss Res head of organisational development risk management, presented the recent work of the CRO Forum on Risk Culture, linking it to the previous IRM study. Jennifer DeMattia, operational risk director at UBS, led a discussion on the role of the risk profession in addressing global trends. It focused particularly on the practical impact risk they could have on global trends identified by the United Nations and studies such as the World Economic Forums risk study particularly in the NGO and not-for-profit sector. This picked up from the last meeting, where Christa Arents of the Global Fund explained its approach to managing risks related to funding humanitarian projects in challenging parts of the world, including failed states.
