As always, we will consider any submission with asset management at its heart. Email josh.ellicock@theIAM.org elcome to our latest issue of Assets, and a happy new year to you all. I hope you enjoyed the festive period and had a well-earned break spent with family and friends. You will not be mistaken in noticing that we have shifted slightly from our usual timings for the magazine; we hope this is a welcome change for you. This allows us to showcase the winners and finalists from the IAM Asset Management Excellence Awards 2022 in a more timely manner. In our profile interview, we speak to Cameron Sloman (winner of the NxtGen award) about his whirlwind first 12 months in the profession, and learn of the profound impact he has had on his colleagues and the clients with which hes worked to deliver lasting change. Sloman is a testament to the importance of NxtGen and the need to bring in fresh thinking to our industry. We also hear from four of the finalists for the NxtGen award about how they got into the industry, and where their interest lies on both a personal and professional note. On the night, Sally Sudworth and Ashley Barratt picked up their Presidents awards, held over from the previous year as they were busy representing the IAM at COP26. In a fascinating recap, they detail their involvement and what has happened since. Meanwhile, PA Consulting and Affinity Water tell us what it takes to land the IAM Team Achievement award and what their chalk streams have in common with the Bengal tiger! They describe the multifaceted challenges posed to Affinity Water, not least their 2030 net-zero target, a drastic need for a reduction in leakages and the flowrate of leaks, alongside the time taken to locate such leaks. The quantified benefits they have achieved are quite staggering, not to mention the wider environmental and societal benefits these will bring, making them truly worthy winners of the award. We also speak to Nick Gould, winner of the Eason Award for Digital Innovation, about the largest and most urgent transition period to face the energy network for a century. National Grid is investing 1.3bn in upgrades to increase capacity and bring lowcarbon and green energy to our houses. We hear of the challenges it is tackling around managing physical constraints against the backdrop of sustained high consumer costs and the need to prevent further increases with building more infrastructure not necessarily providing the answer.
