From left, Chairman Sham Bendre, MD Amit Bendre, National Head Purnima Parmeswaran, and Joint MD Sales Sameer Bendre FF: What are some of the key characteristics of your local market? PP: The relocation market in India is very competitive as there are several small-time players, given the geographical expanse, so the market still holds a lot of potential for the moving business. Presently, India is more of an inbound market, as several multinational companies are setting up in India as their offshore location. FF: How has the countrys moving industry evolved over the past decade? PP: Though the moving industry is shrinking on a global basis because of companies shoestring budgets, India still has a lot of potential, since the recent economic developments of our country and across the world have seen some dynamic changes, with newer administrations and policies being put in place. FF: Where do you see your biggest opportunities for growth? PP: At a time when sustainability is a huge challenge, within a short time span of eight years, IGL has managed to make a mark in the Indian moving industry and achieve the reputation of a reliable service provider offering premium-quality moving solutions. We see huge opportunities for growth in the overseas market with an upsurge of returning Indians, as well as new recruits being sent to India for secondment. PURNIMA PARMESHWARAN, NATIONAL HEAD AT INTERPORT GLOBAL LOGISTICS PRIVATE FF: How would you describe your companys business ethos? PP: At IGL, we wish to be a preferred partner to our 80 FF292 AugSep19 pp80-81 New Affiliate 3.indd 80 FF: What would you say are your main strengths as an organisation? PP: IGL Relocation boasts a robust platform of freight forwarding, consolidation and customs brokerage offered by our parent group Interport Global Logistics Pvt Ltd, which gives us an edge over our competitors in exercising complete control over our shipments. FF: Why did you decide to join FIDI? PP: Having been in the moving business for more than eight years, it made logical sense for IGL to embark upon the FAIM journey to differentiate ourselves from the rest. Given the geographical expanse of the country, India has seen several small-time moving companies mushrooming in the metro cities and tier-two and tier-three cities. Therefore, it becomes difficult for corporates to identify premium companies that can offer seamless, quality moving services. FAIM gives us the distinguishing characteristics that helps IGL to stand out from the competition. FF: How did you find the FAIM process? PP: The FAIM process was indeed a daunting task, as there were several things that had to be taken care of policy corrections, process amendments, documentation, and so forth. However, the entire process gave us a sense of self development and a definite path that, once embarked upon, only ensures you are several steps closer to quality. FF: Are you looking forward to playing an active role in your FIDI Association? PP: Yes, we look forward to playing an active role. Being new to it, we hope to receive a lot of support from the community and, at the same time, give back as much as we can. WWW. F I D I . OR G 15/07/2019 15:25
