SN-2020/005 Ageing aircraft component reliability & associated acceptance of replacement parts This Safety Notice is published to raise awareness of reliability challenges relating to parts fitted to older aircraft types and the acceptance criteria relating to sourcing replacements. A recent MOR concerning the apparent failure of the magnetos on an M-14P engine fitted to a Yak-52 serves as a useful reminder to affected parties about: 1. The reliability of what are sometimes ageing designs of components and the effects of storage and or calendar service; and, 2. Requirements related to the provision of either direct replacement or alternative (modified) parts. SW2020/087 COVID-19 Extension of the validity period for Recurrent Dangerous Goods Training The CAA has published the following exemption to support the industry through the COVID-19 outbreak. The exemption is available via the following link: ORS4 No.1379: COVID-19 Extension of the Validity Period for Recurrent Dangerous Goods Training SN-2020/004 Operational measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection The outbreak of novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has been qualified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO) as of 11th March 2020. Based on the reports published by the WHO and Public Health England (PHE), the CAA strongly recommends that all commercial air transport (CAT) operators implement stringent cleaning and disinfection regimes in accordance with their maintenance procedures to reduce the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus. While this safety notice is primarily aimed at CAT operators, other aviation organisations are strongly encouraged to implement similar cleaning and disinfection regimes to reduce the risk of spreading the COVID-19 virus.
