Duty editors’ Welcome

Duty editors’ Welcome

Duty editors’ Welcome. Welcome to the spring edition of The Log. It could be argued that we have taken the liberty of using the renewal theme of spring this issue, with nature awakening from winter hibernation, to bring you a new slant on many of our usual topics. Charlotte Branson from the BALPA team and pilot Sarah Brodie bring us a report on our latest campaign to support the creation of the ‘next generation’, with more relevant and appropriate maternity provision for pilots; our travel piece is on aviation museums, rather than a geographical location, and, from his rocking chair, even the Old Git is discussing the impact (let’s hope not!) of the new drones phenomenon. The main theme of this journal is mental wellbeing, both maintaining good mental health and offering the resources, support and time necessary for those suffering, with the same openness and generosity as is given to physical health issues. One of our members bravely writes of the challenges of supporting his wife through illness; BALPA rep and pilot Captain James Burnell raises the issue of burnout. David Keen LIFT-OFF Martin Chalk The Log has also been ‘renewed’ with this digital edition, too. There is no intention to stop production of the high-quality print magazine, but rather to augment it with a 21st century digital edition, both online and via an app. Try the online version on your PC at http://portfolio.cpl.co.uk/The-Log, or search in the App Store or Play Store for ‘BALPA Log’.
