Motorists can park in Peel Street car park for up to four hours for free, providing they visit one of the citys participating businesses and give their vehicle details. There is no cost to the business to sign up and take advantage of this offer. This is a trying time for everyone, businesses and individuals alike, so now is the time to band together and for everyone to play their part, said Scott Binnington, Bransby Wilson Parking Solutions managing director. We hope this offer will benefit shops and their visitors and help bring some positivity within York. Q-Park and Westminster keyworker schemes Q-Park has introduced a scheme in collaboration with Westminster Council to offer a low-cost parking solution for key workers and support services to help them return to work safely. Westminster Council had previously been providing free on-street parking for its key workers, but the cost burden was becoming significant and workers were finding it harder to find an available space. In a unique public and private sector arrangement, Q-Park and Westminster Council agreed a scheme that allows key workers to receive safe and secure parking from just 5 in the heart of London. Nearly 200 people have already applied. Latest developments from organisations across the profession Good move by ZZPS ZZPS has signed up to the Good Business Charter (GBC) the first firm in the private parking sector to do so. Companies such as Deloitte and Capita have also signed up to the accreditation, which seeks to raise the bar on responsible business practices for employees, tax, the environment, customers and suppliers. Gary Osner, managing director of ZZPS, said: I am delighted that ZZPS has been accredited by the GBC because we have put the customer at the heart of our business since day one. Being the first business from the private parking sector to be accredited is also a great achievement. Prior to hearing about the GBC, ZZPS became both a Living Wage Employer and Investors in People accredited. We are justifiably proud of the way we engage with our colleagues, clients and customers alike. Becoming part of the GBC demonstrates this community. We will be encouraging others in the sector to sign up to promote a positive business ethic. Chairman of the GBC board Simon Fox said: The GBC consists of 10 standards, most of which already exist, but in separate places. We have bought them together to give a coherent overall position for businesses to aspire to. We believe that the GBC has enormous potential to change business practice for good. We hope that, because of its simplicity and cost effectiveness, it will quickly gain support. The GBC offers a straightforward accreditation to recognise organisations that prioritise and care for their employees, the environment, customers and suppliers, while also paying their taxes according to the spirit of the law. It has the support of both the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and the Trades Union Congress (TUC). Other our commitment to maintaining our general ethos, and we are very proud to be part of partners include the Living Wage Foundation and the Prompt Payment Code. Air and traffic control Siemens Mobility has partnered with air quality expert EarthSense to provide the Zephyr air-quality measurement system for traffic management applications. Zephyr is a high specification, compact air-quality sensor that measures a range of pollutants, as well as temperature and humidity, to capture a true and accurate picture of the ambient air quality. Poor air quality in towns and cities is an ever-increasing problem. By integrating Zephyr with the traffic signal controller and traffic management systems, air quality can be measured and monitored in real time. This will allow authorities to make meaningful and timely interventions through Siemens Mobilitys Stratos traffic management system, implementing strategies based on reliable pollution data and prevailing air quality levels. Wilke Reints, managing director of Intelligent Traffic Systems for Siemens Mobility in the UK, contract by Renfrewshire Council to upgrade and expand the councils traffic control system. Covering 66 controlled sites across Renfrewshire, including Paisley and the Braehead shopping and entertainment complex, Siemens Mobility will replace the councils existing, locally hosted urban traffic control (UTC) system with the companys latest cloud-hosted UTC-UX solution. Meanwhile, following the successful completion of a series of pilot projects and trial sites, Siemens Mobility has installed its Plus+ traffic control system in Coventry. The company was awarded a contract by Coventry City Council to install its Plus+ system at a busy intersection on one of the main routes in to the city. Siemens Mobility delivered the work as a complete turnkey package, including design, civils and temporary traffic management. said: Air quality is a real priority for us all, but to fully understand the impact of traffic and any strategic interventions, it must be constantly monitored and measured and that can only be done using intelligent road infrastructure. The introduction of Zephyr demonstrates our commitment to further reduce air pollution. It has real-time monitoring capabilities to help cities meet their air quality targets without putting too much pressure on local economies. n Siemens Mobility has been awarded a 10-year 8 britishparking.co.uk PN Aug20 pp08-09 Companies News.indd 8 23/07/2020 09:41
