N : , d FROM TH E E D I TO R Change for the better T o paraphrase someone far wiser than me, its not the change that causes us pain, the pain is caused by not wanting things to change when they always do Many movers have been battling with change for years. Having just got to grips with how to work alongside the RMCs, a new round of change has begun, with outside investment and mergers morphing relocation businesses into something different and huge, and presenting sizeable new questions. In this edition, we ask movers and RMCs about facing this challenge, how they are responding to deals such as SIRVA/Cartus and their prognosis for the industry, which also has implications for FIDIs own operations. Change is everywhere and, alongside the unknowns and concern generated by the above scenario, there are also crucial transformations afoot that are evidently positive. These include the rapidly increasing focus on diversity and equality in our sector, and the significant selfinitiated steps taken towards a cleaner shipping industry demonstrated by its new sulphur cap rules and push for a decarbonisation R&D fund. In business, perhaps we need to look at change as neither good nor bad, but simply a set of new circumstances; a fact of life that will bring us fresh challenges but opportunities, too. In the UK, for example, those who sought Brexit and those who didnt are both now forced to examine the respective flip sides of this momentous change. Youll notice weve made some changes to FIDI Focus, too. These will help you navigate the magazine more easily and also highlight better the increasing amount of opinion from across the industry we are planning to feature. I invite you to get involved with this and send us your stories and comments about developments in your business and your opinions about the wider changes afoot in the industry.
