Policy impacts: general insurance. Throughout 2020, in the area of general insurance, we have: ABI Annual Conference, February 2020 Advocated for, negotiated and launched the UK government-backed 10bn Trade Credit Support Scheme, to help business keep trading through Covid-19. Continued to work with stakeholders to combat fraud, taking action on brand misuse, fake websites and scams, and informing the governments Economic Crime Plan. We have also successfully lobbied the government to implement the Fifth Money Laundering Directive in line with ABI representations. Worked with the claimant law community to deliver agreements to support and protect claimants, and ease the burden on courts during the pandemic, while continuing to advocate for the full implementation of personal injury reforms. Launched new research into the value of cyber insurance for the UK economy and deepened relationships with key stakeholders. Provided guidance to consumers and government throughout the Covid-19 pandemic on travel insurance implications, including creating a customer Q&A, publishing industry claims data, and working with the FCDO to support customers overseas. Coordinated the industry response to Storms Ciara and Dennis, and supported the independent Flood Insurance Review through proactive engagement and development of guidance and best practice for members and customers. Informed and supported the implementation of building regulation and fire-safety reforms with government and parliament, providing insight and leadership on the issue of professional indemnity insurance for properties with combustible cladding. We have also successfully lobbied the government to commit to investigating further the use of modern methods of construction. On health insurance, we have: Worked tirelessly with PMI providers, independent sector hospitals and the government to support the NHS and, subsequently, managed a successful transition back to elective treatments and surgery in hospitals, to ensure affordable, safe and timely care for all. Launched the ABIs Mental Health Standards and the customer-facing Insurance Guide, with Mental Health UK, to offer better support to customers with mental health conditions when applying for health, travel or protection insurance. Published the first annual report on the Code on Genetic Testing and Insurance, giving a transparent overview of how the code is operating and how key developments in genomics impact insurance. Secured the exclusion of private medical insurance from the scope of GI value measures reporting rules by negotiating with the FCA.
